Not as interesting as I wanted it to be, but it did stir fond memories of watching her variety show for so many years. It was good for some light quick-reading to give my brain a break. ( )

Listening to the audiobook (narrated by the author) is the way to go with this one. If you remember Carol Burnett's variety show, I think you would enjoy this. She mentions that this was written for her grandchildren - it's stories she wants them to remember about her life. It very much reads that way. Never too crass, usually funny and entertaining. The essays have an old-fashioned feel to them, but they still managed to make my teen chuckle at times when he was forced to listen with me in the car. ( )

Listening to Carol Burnett tell her story adds to the fun of these recollections of one of our greatest comedians. Her warmth, humor, and amazing storytelling ability come through. You feel like you're sitting in her living room, curled on her couch, listening to your friend tell you about her life. Included are stories about Julie Andrews, Carol Channing, Marlon Brando, Jimmy Stewart, and, or course, Harvey Korman, Vicky Lawrence, Tim Conway, and Lyle Waggoner. (The story of her phone conversation with Marlon Brando will have you rolling on the floor!) ( )

As I said in my recent status update, I loved this book. The Carol Burnett show was such a staple growing up in the 70's; it wasn't until I started reading/listening to this book that I realised how much I missed the kind of comedy she and her cast served up every week.

The book is broken into individual anecdotes that cover her early life and career. Almost all of them are light, interesting, amusing and often laugh-out-loud hilarious. A couple towards the end will bring tears as she relates particularly heartbreaking moments, but mostly the tears are from laughing so hard.

I don't know how well this book's promise would translate for anyone who hadn't at least watched a few episodes of The Carol Burnett Show, but for those that have and enjoyed it, this is a welcome trip down memory lane.

Burnett herself reads the book, and she does an amazing job. At no point did it ever feel like she was 'reading' anything; her delivery is as natural as if she was right there talking to you.

I'm thrilled to find out she released another book last year, In Such Good Company. All behind the scenes stories from the show. It's taking all my self control to not check it out and immediately start listening, but I'm going to make myself listen to a book from my shelves first. ( )

Let me start off saying I love Carol Burnett. I find her hilarious and a good actress to boot. This however was bland and boring. I guess its kind of not a biography, or really a memoir. What it is, is tiny stories about people in her life, certain events etc. Each chapter is a new one about a different person or event and is only 3-4 pages long.

This wouldn't be so bad if it were more advertised this way and if the stories were more interesting. She glosses over a lot of things. Saying, things like, well this person died, and then this happened and then on to the next thing. I just felt like nothing really went together well, and each story mostly failed to entertain me.

This is not to say nothing about it was good. Carol is funny, some of it is charming and nice to know, but all in all, its not really worth it. ( )

Our legacy is really the lives we touch, the inspiration we give, altering someone's plan--if even for a moment--and getting them to think, rage, cry, laugh, argue...Walk around the block, dazed...More than anything, we are remembered for our smiles; the ones we share with our closest and dearest, and the ones we bestow on a total stranger, who needed it RIGHT THEN, and God put you there to deliver.
