Write the summary of the book. Chapter 1-3 What do you do when a big hole suddenly appears in your life? You either fall into it, or you start to fill it up. What can I tell you about Jacky? After two or three hundred years of rain, ice, snow, wind and sun the roof-tile fell from its place to down into the street of the old town and hit my wife in the middle of her head, killing her instantly. I remember running into the kitchen with the paper shouting 'Jacky! Jacky! Como!' and nearly knocking her down in my excitement. We left our jobs. Everyone, our friends and family, even the people at work, thought we were silly to leave good jobs in England for an uncertain life abroad. Even now, after all these years, I can still remember exactly how good it felt to be in Como. Jack and Italy, I used to say myself, the two loves of my life, and I had them both! And then, five months later, she wasn't there any more. I suppose the friendship with Sandra who had worked in Jacky's team started in February. Once or twice I found myself looking at her. Once she'd seen me and given me a smile in return. Sandra was very helpful during the meeting. At the end of the meeting she stayed behind when the others had gone. She came up to me. 'Paul,' she said, 'I wanted to tell you how very sorry I am about Jacky.' And then she did a surprising thing. She kissed me on my cheek and was gone, leaving me the smell of perfume and the feel of her soft lips on my skin. I felt very confused. That night at home I cried for the first time since Jacky's death. And the emptiness I knew I'd really been trying to cover up. And it was Sandra who had helped me with that. That kiss after the meeting had changed something inside me. And change was what I needed after loosing Jacky. I have to say that I felt guilty about those thoughts. After all it was only four months since Jacky had died. But I couldn't stop thinking about Sandra. So I sent her a postcard and signed it, Love, Paul. Chapter 4-5 'Would you like to come to my family's old house in Magreglio, up in the mountains?,' she suddenly asked. I replied at once. 'I'd love to.' I was quite surprised to hear myself answer so quickly, feeling of guilt and excitement (which were) mixed. It was pouring with rain when Sandra arrived in her car at nine o'clock on Saturday morining, as arranged. I was so excited that I hardly noticed that the car was a very expensive Alfa Romeo- far bigger than she could have afford on her salary at Corvo Phrmaceuticals. An hour later we were there. 'Where are your parents?' I asked. 'In Como,' she replied. 'Why?' 'Well, I thought they'd be here, doing weekend gardening and things,' I answered, still rather surprised. 'Why would I have wanted to bring you if they were here? she answered. Looking back now, it was perhaps the most enjoyable weekend I've ever had. And I'd have a few relationships since then. Time passed. 'Let's go to Lugano this afternoon,' said Sandra suddenly. After driving up to Belaggio, we took the ferry over Lake Como to Menaggio then up over the hill and down to Lake Lugano. We then continued round Lugano and parked the car. We kissed and then walked along to one of the extremely tidy cafes in the square. We ordered two of the large bowls of fruit, ice-cream. After a few moments, Sandra looked around the square, looked her watch and then stood up. 'Toilet,' she said and disappeared inside the cafe. The ice-creams arrived and I started eating mine, wondering why she was taking so long. After five minutes I stood up to see where she was. She was talking seriously to a very well-dressed man with a bald head and designer sunglasses, who was standing next to a silver Mercedes. The man was obviously quite angry. I saw Sandra open her bag and gave him a small package. She then said something else, then turned to walk back to our cafe. I sad down again and ate some ice-cream. My heart was beating fast and I wondered what was going on. 'Sorry, Paul, there was a queue, and then I took too long doing my make-up,' she said when she got back to the table. 'Eat ice-cream. It's melting,' I heard myself say. Apparently I had decided to be cool and try to find out what was happening laster on. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
