Mystery writer and part-time thief, Charlie Howard, is in Vegas with his publisher Victoria for some relaxation. The antics of Charlie as he performs some minor theft is always entertaining. As usual there are a number of laugh-out-loud moments. Victoria has picked up some gambling tips from her Monte Carlo gambling father, which comes in handy for paying debts to the local gangsters. Let's hope Charlie's mystery writing is better than his light fingers. For light reading, you can't beat Ewan's Good Thief series. ( )

This was an okay story, though I'm not sure I could go through another one any time soon. The twist at the end... came out of no where and the reveal came in the epilogue in essence, instead of the final scene.

I admit the style wasn't what I expected, though it came from a different point than I'm used to. It made for an interesting POV when listening. The book seemed to move slow, move away from the base plot a bit then come back like a snapped rubber band.

I'll keep it in the meh category for now. ( )

It seems to me that the lead is anything but a good thief, despite his protestations. He is as bumbling a thief as I can imagine. However, he is funny, and read by Simon Vance he is meltingly enjoyable. Obviously, this tale takes place in Vegas where one thing after another goes wrong when a headliner magician disappears. Although I saw the mystery, it was fun to watch the characters bumble through it. I liked this story very much. So much in fact, that I purchased more of the author's works to read/hear. ( )

Every time I read a Chris Ewan book I like his style more and more. Yes, his Good Thief books follow a certain formula. Writer/thief Charlie Howard gets himself into trouble time and time again and lives to write about it. Ewan can make Charlie visit every major city in the world and then some. And if Charlie ever settles down and has a kid who takes after pops...well, sky's the limit. The trick is to make every story stand alone and Ewan does that. You won't be missing out if you read just one (but you won't want to). It's definitely more fun to read them all in order.
When we catch up to Charlie Howard and his editor sidekick Victoria they are in Vegas, trying to enjoy a little holiday after being kicked out of Paris. Charlie gets himself into a little bit of trouble when he decides he wants to rob an obnoxious magician who rubbed him the wrong way. Finding a dead woman in the magician's hotel room is only the beginning. There weren't as many laugh-out-loud moments in this one, but it was still a pleasure to read. ( )

Charlie Howard, published author and professional thief runs off to Las Vegas with his publicist Victoria for a much needed vacation. Too bad that doesn't happen. Victoria runs into a casino headliner/magician who ends up missing for which Charlie and she are blamed. The plot continues to thicken with mafia, rivalry casinos, Charlie's attempts at profitable thievery, a midget, a giant and finally a dead body. But the who did what and why turns out to be the fun of the novel.
This is a very fun novel to read. There is some humor, even laugh out loud funny. The characters are great especially in the setting of Las Vegas. This is the first Good Thief's Guide I've read, so I have to go back and read the others and hope they are as good. I can easily see this as being a great long-standing series. ( )
