Even when Eddie does receive the bike, he realizes that all he wants is the sweater ("What his heart needs most"). Eddie realizes that big shiny gifts aren't what Christmas is about, but family and love. His grandpa tells him that instead of a new bike, he is going to receive a gift that is much better! His mom made him a homemade sweater! The boy is very disappointed but after having many dreams about the amazing sweater, he learns the true power of homemade gifts. He discovers that homemade gifts hold special magic from their maker that stay with you forever! In the morning he discovers that he actually got the new bike!
