The dates, starting back in the mid 1700's give a brief timeline up to the Alamo. The book also highlights people such as David Crockett and William Barrett Travis, who all took a stance either against or for the Spanish regime. This book is tale of how Texas was won. ( )

Summary: This book presents viewpoints of the Alamo in different eras. For example, in 1542, a conquistador that was raised in Spain claimed all that was beneath him in the name of the God and the King. In 1834, Santa Anna is very annoyed by all of the Texans. He plans on raising their taxes, taking away their rights, and sending them back to where they came from. In February of 1836, Crockett and all of his men from Tennessee arrived to help Texas win their independence from Mexico. Santa Anna had over four thousand men in his army and was not going down without a fight. March 5, 1836, Santa Anna asked the Texas if they wanted to surrender but the Texans replied with the fire of a canon saying they would not back down. March 6, 1836, the battle broke out. Men were dropping dead left and right and wives and children were watching their husbands and fathers die. In April of 1836, Sam Houston attacked Santa Anna and his army unexpectedly, killing all of their men. Today, people see the Alamo and remember everything that people had to go through to gain our independence from Mexico. The Alamo will forever be remembered.

Content Area Supported: Writing
The students will choose one of the people from the story and write as if they were in their position. The students could write about how they would feel if they were one of the people going through that time having to witness everything that they did. The students would be writing their voice of the Alamo.
