This book has information to tell students about bugs. What kinds of different bugs there are. It teaches children what bugs fly and bite.

1. Have materials to catch bugs and to take your class outside and have your students catch as many bugs as they can.
2. Have your students draw their favorite bug.

Summary:
Bugs is an informational book about the different details to pay attention to on various insects. For example the eyes on a Long Horned Grasshopper, The wings on a Dewy Dragonfly and Mouth of the Green Bottle Fly, just to name a few.

Personal Reaction:
This informational book could be read to the classroom in one setting. Great attention getter for children in an informative way and I enjoy this book. I would pair this book with Mrs. Spider’s Tea Party just for fun!

Extension Ideas:

1.A nature walk would be perfect with this book; students would team up in groups and will be challenged to catch 2 bugs per group in a glass jar. The groups will return to class to write 3 things that they notice about their insects and the group will also be responsible to label the insects its scientific name.

2.Each student will be given an insect’s name to research and create a creative presentation about.

3.Students will be rewarded with a tea party just for a class of well done!

This is a book informing children of the body parts of bugs. Showcased in vivid photographs are: wings, legs, eyes, and mouths of various insects.

I love the realistic illustrations of the bugs. It is a great way to introduce the subject of bugs to young children.

I would read this book to a class of kindergarteners or first-graders to begin a lesson on insects. I would have an open discussion on the children’s favorite bugs, asking them to describe the different components of the bug’s body (i.e. wings, antenna). Then I would have them draw their favorite insect, showcasing its body parts.
