Yankee Doodle is a good story, but its a story that has to be sang. Its about a little boy that goes out and sees people wasting food, which he wishes could be saved, he sees war going on and his fathers cattle getting shot. Finally he goes home to hide because he cannot see anymore.

I can kind of relate to this book because of the war he saw. When 9-11 happened I had to deal with my dad going to Afghanistan to fight for his country and it was hard to even see on the news.

I would use this in a classroom when talking about colonial times and Americas history. And I would also just read it for fun and have the students learn the song.

Yankee Doodle and his little brother rode a horse into town. When they got to the end of town; there were thousands of soldiers dressed and ready for war. Captain Washington went to the front line and started to give the army orders. Yankee Doodle told his little brother to go back home before the battle started. However on the way home the brother is captured by the enemy army. During the battle Yankee Doodle's brother gets away. He ran all the way home to scared to stop. When the war ended Yankee Doodle returned home and the whole town feasted.

I really liked the illustrations in this book. This story had a lot of historical information.

In the classroom the students could sing along with the book. The classroom could also have discussion on war and what the students think about war.

This book describes a young boy's experience at his first Yankee Doodle festive. He encounters many colonials, loud guns, men on horses, and men digging in the ground. This experiences was frightening for him, so he ran all the way home as fast as he could to his mother without looking back.

This is a cute book to read in the classroom that would allow children to sing along. It would probably be a little bit hard for very young children to understand. This would be a great book to read while studying this time period in history.

As a classroom extension, I would let my students make colonial hats out of construction paper and decorate them howeer they wish. I would let them wear the hats during class while we studied this period of history.

This story is made up of the traditional song and story of events that happend at that time in history.

I liked reading this book because it brings back memories of hearing and singing the song while i was in elementary school. Its a great story because it is fun and not hard to follow along.

One classroom extension idea would be to make hats just like Yankee Doodle did, while singing the song all together. Another would be to write the song lyrics on multiple pieces of paper, twice (have the full song for each group) and divide the room into two groups and have a timed game of putting the words in order!
