An unhappy theater director stages a replica of his life in a warehouse. Strange on a level that's strange relative to other Charlie Kaufman movies. Usually when a movie is described as having "dream logic," it's code for saying they do whatever arbitrary, surreal nonsense seemed like a good idea at the time. But with this movie, it actually does use dream logic. I don't always know what's literally going on, but still at any point I could pause it and explain what's happening, and why. Theater director Caden Cotard is mounting a new play. Determined to create a piece of brutal realism and honesty, he gathers an ensemble cast into a warehouse in Manhattan's theater district. He instructs each to live out their constructed lives in a small mockup of the city outside. As the city inside the warehouse grows, Caden's own life veers wildly off track. His daughter, Olive, is growing up under questionable guidance. He's helplessly driving his marriage to actress Claire into the ground. His daughter, Ariel, is mentally handicapped. He steadily blurs the line between the world of the play and that of his own deteriorating reality. As he pushes the limits of his relationships, both personally and professionally, a change in creative direction arrives in Millicent Weems, a celebrated theater actress who may offer Caden the break he needs. ik houd niet van die kleuren... alla.. past wel,
troosteloos, alles en iedereen voor niets en nutteloos.
motieven: vuren in huis.(ik snap niet waarom) doodgaan, vervangbaar, realiteit is belangrijk.
klemtoon op 2e lettergreep.
Not cheerful, is wonderfully put together. a complex window narration, or reverse window narration, you can also call it reverse droste effect. because someone from outside the periphery (reality) keeps joining it in the imagination of the film shot after a hole has fallen there.
I don't like those colors... whatever... fits,
desolate, everything and everyone for nothing and useless.
motifs: fires in the house.(i don't understand why) dying, replaceable, reality is important.
emphasis on 2nd syllable
