This isa great book about a dog and his friends who are entered in a beauty contest by their owners. They are not enjoying it until they see the price is a cookie. I used this book as a read aloud to my students and they enjoyed it greatly. It's a good book on expression and use of punctuation. I did my lesson on learning how to use expression and knowing when to with the use of the punctuation. ( ) Anyone who likes dogs or who is familiar with Stanley the crazy, lovable retriever will enjoy this book. Young readers can learn about love and loyalty through the message in the simple plot. Stanley's Beauty Contest shares 32 pages of colourful, acrylic images and doggy fun. Add this one to your Stanley collection as it does not disappoint! Stanley is back in his third book and this time, his owners are entering him into a dog show. They bathe him and get him all fixed up but neglect to give him his breakfast. Therefore all day he is starving, and the prizes are big dog bone shaped cookies! He tries hard but cannot win any of the competitions, so the only one left is the beauty contest. I am not going to give away the ending but I will say that it is very humorous. I love Stanley and this story did not disappoint me. I recommend this book to all dog lovers!
"Bailey and Slavin continue their canine-themed collaboration with this fourth entry in their series about Stanley the mischievous yellow lab. This time he is entered by "his people" in a local dog contest, much to his dismay. The frantic preparations for the contest lead to the unhappy dog missing his breakfast and suffering the indignity of a bath with banana-scented shampoo. Stanley and his canine companions find the contest ludicrous, but the prizes are enticing: large, bone-shaped biscuits in mouthwatering flavors. Poor Stanley watches other dogs win in each category, carrying off the delectable biscuit rewards one by one. When Stanley tries to nibble on the last prize, he upsets the awards table and his antics lead to an entirely predictable, if comical doggy disaster. Though the story is rather slight, Slavin's acrylic paintings in a muted palette bring considerable charm and humor to the dogs of widely varying breeds and sizes. Stanley is an expressive and appealing pooch whose heart is always in the right place." (Picture book. 4-7 Appartient à la sérieStanley the Dog (4) Prix et récompenses
Stanley's people are so preoccupied with primping him for the dog show in the park that they forgot his breakfast and soon he and his dogfriends are determined to eat the show's grand prize--the biggest, most scrumptious-smelling dog cookie ever! Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
