Sometimes I wonder why I have a drama, rather than theatre, shelf. And then I go to see something like this, which is way over the top. Of course it has to be drama! The Finsborough Theatre put this on recently, the first time it's been performed since commissioned in the late 1920s, first published 1930. The overt, ever present homosexuality of the play explains the long delay before its debut. A considered academic analysis of the play can be found here. A theme of the play is impending war, Graves knew it was coming again, much as it has been described as a post-catastrophic comedy, one might argue it is pre, as well as post. It's a play of its time and if one wants a rounded view of Graves, observing aspects of him that aren't obvious in other areas of his writing, it is to be recommended. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
