Debra Ginsberg has been a waitress for 20 years and chronicles her adventures in this great book. It's really fascinating. Not long ago I read [b:Kitchen Confidential|33313|Kitchen Confidential Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly (updated edition)|Anthony Bourdain|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1168422043s/33313.jpg|4219] about what it's like to be a chef in a restaurant. Now I've got the serving point of view. I am certainly going to enjoy my restaurant adventures with new points of views from here on out. Quick, easy and fun read. There's some glaring grammar errors, missing words and strange spellings [eyebrow raising, considering her previous work as an editor...]. Otherwise, a very lovingly composed book about an industry we are all extremely familiar with - though maybe not as much as we thought ;) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
A veteran waitress dishes up a spicy and robust account of life as it really exists behind kitchen doors. Part memoir, part social commentary, part guide to how to behave when dining out, Debra Ginsberg's book takes readers on her twentyyear journey as a waitress at a soap-operatic Italian restaurant, an exclusive five-star dining club, the dingiest of diners, and more. While chronicling her evolution as a writer, Ginsberg takes a behind-the-scenes look at restaurant life-revealing that yes, when pushed, a server will spit in food, and, no, that's not really decaf you're getting-and how most people in this business are in a constant state of waiting to do something else. Once you read this book, you will never look at the wait staff, or restaurants, in the same light.
I learned a lot about how wait staff is treated, the jobs in the restaurants, and the whole attitude towards them.
Interesting. ( )
