Margaret Olley is arguably Australia's most loved living artist. She's also one of the country's most generous benefactors to public art galleries. This intimate biography is a rich and comprehensive look at eighty-odd years of Margaret Olley - from the 1920s in the green, tropical wet of Tully, North Queensland to bohemian adventures in Europe- her lovers and friendships with well-known figures such as Donald Friend, William Dobel and Russell Drysdale, successes and failures, and, of course, her life-long love affair with painting. My only complaint, that the paintings in the illustrations were in black and white, but then that would have meant a much higher price for the book so I just had to use my imagination. (
