"This is the best of the HTML cookbooks I've seen so far." -- Byte magazine "...the most effective way to learn how to write HTML pages...a complete, step-by-step guide to designing, editing, and managing Web pages." -- PC Magazine With The HTML Sourcebook, Second Edition, you'll quickly master all the commands, tools, and techniques you need to create state-of-the-art Web page documents. This extensively revised edition of the bestselling guide to online publishing using HTML now provides complete coverage of HTML 3.0, the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) Standard, experimental HTML features such as Netscape and Microsoft extensions, Web document design, and more. Of course, you'll still find the clear, step-by-step guidelines, priceless pointers, and abundance of instructive examples--complete with code and screen captures--that made the first edition of this book the standard reference on HTML for the Web page developer community. The HTML Sourcebook shows you how to: Use all the HTML commands--including HTML 3.0 --and the URL syntax Create documents that support the latest Web technologies, including Netscape frames and JavaTM applets Create and edit HTML documents for all WWW browsers Translate documents from a wide range of formats into HTML documents Create professional-quality hypertext documents that incorporate graphics, sound, and video effects Design your own customized CGI programs and HTML forms Access and use all the browsers, editors, translators, CGI programs, and other valuable Web tools available online The HTML Sourcebook, Second Edition is your complete guide to creating high-quality full-featured Web documents. In its time (pre HTML 4.x), the best book about HTML on the planet. Sadly. the second edition, while more current, dropped both the handy reference material at the end and the colorful cover. I've hung onto this book for over a decade, and even now it feels like betraying an old friend as I cull it from my library... [2008-01-27] ( )

Great book for learning HTML, in 1995. There are occasions when I use it for reference, in particular the appendices. ( )
