This is perhaps my favorite Mithgar novel. It has some ties to events from Voyage of the Fox Rider, though it is not a sequel to that book. An evil being, basically a vampire, that was defeated, but not killed before has risen again, and this time it must be killed permanently. The small group of heroes that are left who promised to finish the job the first time, or their heirs, are called on again. While the world and writing still feels like Tolkien, this book is McKiernan taking it in his own direction. This remains one of my favorite stories written in the Mithgar world by this author. It was the first one of his I read, and perhaps that is why it had such an impact on me. In particular, I loved the character Faeril, and their journey and perils felt very real and compelling to me. I did find the shifting time perspective somewhat confusing, but never did get lost, and so was still able to get lost in the story--multiple times. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
