For some reason I did not recognize the names of these two artists, but once I started reading the book, I did recognize some of their wonderful art pieces. I have enjoyed biographies by these authors before and once again I was pleased. Somehow they managed to weave the lives of these together seamlessly.

Students will love this book. I think it will inspire them to do great things. Many of the projects in this book seem impossible, but there they are. They are amazing. ( )

This is the story of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, two artists most recently known for the 2005 exhibit in Central Park called "The Gates". The book gives a short background of each artist and discusses the projects they have done leading up to The Gates. The photographs are wonderful and there are many of them. Whether you are a fan of their work or not, this book conveys the message that art does not have to be a painting or even permanent. Hopefully this will open the eyes of children to see art in a different way. Overall I really liked this book. ( )

The art and life of artists Christo and Jeanne Claude is described with a particular focus on their latest project: The Gates. The style of this book is so that there is not too much text and the prose is written in a way to keep reader's engaged and reading. Every so often a phrase of importance will appear in a different color and size. The design of the book includes text at the bottom with photographs of their art across each page. The story of how Jeanne-Claude and Christo have made their art work and the difficulty of creating each work of art should interest readers. The information is presented in chapters and the opening chapter leaves the reader with a kind of cliff hanger so that he or she will read on. The beginning chapter introduces the reader to the artwork The Gates and then the rest of the text goes chronologically through the artists' lives and work. The information appears accurate and quotes from the artists' and a bibliography are provided. This book may be good for reluctant readers and may lead them to investigating more about the incredible artwork of Jeanne-Claude and Christo. Recommended. ( )
