Interesting, often moving account of a young woman arrested for drug smuggling in Thailand, despite being innocent, having been set up by some known drug pushers. She starts by being resentful and angry, often rude to the warders; her case does not go well and she is sentenced to twenty years in a rather primitive and unpleasant jail. There she finds Jesus, and is eventually pardoned.

I'd read this before, many years ago, but forgotten most of the detail. The writing is vivid and fast-paced, the story quite exciting, and also a warning to anyone who might become over-involved in apparently plausible people in the Far East offering them money or free flights around the world.

Now long out of print, but sometimes available second-hand. ( )

A well paced little book that tells, honestly and clearly, the story of Rita Nightingale. It follows as her wanderlust takes her from country to country and failed relationship to failed relationship. It describes how she was targeted and unwittingly used as a heroin mule, leading to her imprisonment in Thailand. With unsparing forthrightness it details her anger, bitterness, and depression. It then shares as the self sacrificing love of Christian people she meets starts to have an impact on her, and she meets with God. The challenges of her new faith, and the changes in how she views others demanded by her relationship with God are profound and are not avoided or minimised. The book concludes with her release on Royal Pardon, and her return to the UK where Rita became involved in the work of the Prison Fellowship. ( )
