This book was truly as good as the first one in this series. Now things are really getting interesting in Kismet's life. First she discovers that, yes, there truly are vampires and next she is counseling them. Suddenly, while doing a radio show in the morning a stranger calls saying some pretty strange things to her. Next she meets a young reporter named Maxie who seems to have taken quite an interest in being her friend and drags her to a vampire slaying. Without even realizing that the person who called is the one who is behind the slaying.

Things start to get stranger and stranger as it seems this maniac, Hallow is an uber vamp immortal and it seems that he can control Kismet's mind by making her primitive inhibitions come to the surface. Things that she wouldn't normally do, she's now doing. And Devereux seems to know a lot whole lot about this guy that he's not telling. First it seems like he's just trying to control her by telling her that he's going to keep her safe, but when nothing seems to work, things really get out of hand.

I love the descriptions in this book because Ms. Hilburn really gives you enough that the reader can pretty much visualize the scenes and whats going on. So in this book of course, there was a lot of that with the fighting scenes and of course, let's not forget the hot and heavy scenes, if ya know what I mean. Ms. Hilburn never lets you down.

Her characters are well evolved throughout the story and very easy to relate to. Even though they are dealing with he paranormal. But yet, they are so much like us! I love it and can't wait for the next session with Dr. Kismet! ( )

Random pickup at the library, thought the cover blurb sounded interesting… and I really regret the whole thing now. The main character is a “vampire psychologist” where she used to treat people who had delusions that they were vampires, until in the first book in the series where she finds out that her town has actual vampires. So now her practice has grown into treating real vampires with their problems. I thought this sounded fairly promising, the whole having a psychologist try to help vampires deal with the problems of immortality and feeding on humans, etc. Ok, well it turned into a whole Anita Blake clone within the first 50 pages. I ended up finding out that the main character is dating the top vampire because he’s gorgeous and gives great sex and the plot of the story spun around a story about some uber-powerful mysterious vampire who has decided that he wants to come into town, make a power play and have the psychologist all to himself. Yes… so I ended up making disgusted noises and ditching the book. ( )

I liked "Dark Harvest" by Lynda Hilburn and I'm not sure I can really explain why. It's not because I couldn't figure out the bit of mystery in this second book about Kismet, a shrink who gets pulled into the reality and power struggles of the vampire world. I knew who the bad guys were pretty quickly and saw most of what was coming. What kept me reading was the way Kismet tried to deal with the horror and mess her life has become and what she learns about herself in the process.

There's quite a bit of scorching hot vamp sex for Kismet in this book and she's entranced by a seriously bad baddie nicknamed the Slayer by other vampires. If you're up against a vampire other vampires fear, it's a good idea to be terrified! Her main vamp Devereux is still in the picture and still pushing Kismet to call herself his mate...and he's still smoking hot. But this time, his protections aren't working as well as either he, or Kismet, would like.

There's also witches and weres and humans and minions in this series; and really, what more do you need for a few stimulating hours of reading pleasure? ( )
