Sarah Royal spent some time working in a Chicago book bindery, and writes candidly about her experience there. From the get-go, she dispels any of our illusions of book-making fantasy, "It's a glorified Kinko's..." and gives us a guided tour of her work and co-workers. It's funny--especially the snippets of dialog--and it's full of beautiful photos of the bindery. Sometimes the humor is at the expense of her co-workers, or those in the bindery's hilariously out-of-control neighborhood. If you like stories about quirky employees interacting, or killing time on the clock, then this book is for you!… (plus d'informations)

Bloody brilliant! For anyone who has ever had a blue-collar, shit job, this book will speak to you! The language flows well and definitely shows the author's life in unexpected ways. I am definitely keeping this book! ( )

"The Book Bindery was a one-shot zine written by Sarah Royal out of Chicago, IL and distributed by Microcosm.
The zine tells they story of Sarah's job working at a book bindery. It combines insight into the workings of a bindery, original photos and Sarah's humor and displeasure with her co-workers, management, and what takes place at the workplace. It's one of those zines that truly gives you a peek into another world."

A lengthy zine chronicling the author's experience working at a bindery in the industrial wastelands of Chicago, much of the material involves simple descriptions of just what such a job entails. In fact, it would be a fine written warning for anyone considering a foray into the mind-numbing vocation of professional printing. What makes this interesting are the stories of employee fist fights, mysterious car fires, crazed owners, naked men living in the parking lot, and quirky co-workers - the stuff that makes working in a city so much fun.
