This book was written more for an academic audience than a general reader, but I decided to read it anyway. It provided me with insight into the history of fairy tales and fables, including a look at their religious and moral underpinnings. But, it's not a light read, and you will need to be familiar with major works of children's literature to get the most out of it.

As I'm not an expert in the field, and read almost no literary criticism, I'm afraid I can't say much more that would be helpful to more informed readers. ( )
