I am not generally a big reader of poetry but I really loved this. My favorite aspect of Lawson's poetry is how much FUN it is to say them aloud. As I sat reading through this I had to keep stopping to read them out to my husband (who also appreciated them). If you love wordplay like "Bartleby startles me" and "All of a sudden"/"All love is sudden" check this out! ( )

This book of poems explores everything from love and conformity to the nature of time. The black and white illustrations have a comic sensibility that could add appeal to readers. There is a “small-type notes for those with excellent eyesight” at the back of the book featuring fascinating notes on the backstories for many of the poems. Lawson uses various poetic forms to create verses that are both humorous and thought provoking.

I am not a huge fan of poetry but I enjoyed reading this book, and I think that kids would like it too.
