This is the story of a group of boys who try to save the world! As boys, Kenji and his friends came up with a bunch of stories about an evil organization bent on world destruction. As adults, someone is now turning their fantasies into reality! Reads R to L (Japanese Style), for audiences rated teen plus. Humanity, having faced extinction at the end of the 20th century, would not have entered the new millennium if it weren't for them. In 1969, during their youth, they created a symbol. In 1997, as the coming disaster slowly starts to unfold, that symbol returns. This is the story of a group of boys who try to save the world. The time has come. The Friend reveals all about his conspiracy and declares that he shall destroy the world within seven days. Kanna plans a music festival to evacuate people to the Expo venue, which is the only place the dictator holds sacred and the only place safe from destruction. While the 20th Century Boys race toward the final battle, Kenji is coming back to Tokyo!!… (plus d'informations)

Well..... this was a mixed bag for me. So we have Friend telling us that his grudge against Kenji is because this one stole a Space Patrol Badge from Jijibaba's store? I mean, what? And while flying sources get defeated (finally assassin number 13 plays his role and Otcho manages to fire missiles from the giant robot) we end up with "Hair" musical ending during which Guta LaLa/Suda Lala song is the thing (all the other performances do not make any effect). And then we fast forward to the end - Kenji from the 2000's comes to 1960's and encounters his younger self followed by the fall of the curtain.

If this was David Lynch's production I would say, yup, figures. But here..... it leaves so many questions open that I am still not sure who the Friend is and why would he have such a grudge against Kenji that he is ready to kill off bloody everyone just to be able to say "Aha! I told you I am better than you!". To say it is overkill is understatement.

Apparently there are two more volumes titled 21st Century Boys that should give some kind of closure (I hope).

Art as always is great.

If you got to this point I hope you will ending satisfying (for me it wasn't so I need to look for remaining two volumes).

All in all very good story-line but I have a feeling that author had to close it up before time. Maybe he was just too ambitious. In any case two more volumes to go, lets see where that will take us. ( )

So, yeah, I was at Woodstock, man. It was wild. People were passing around needles everywhere and these alien saucers were falling out of the sky. I don't remember anything other than a few crazy songs from these dudes with too much makeup, but we were all together, man. We were like, "We're all gonna die out here so why not have a good time anyway!" And we did. It was the power of love.

Holy crapola what a fantastic manga. It was sometimes a bit difficult to sit through because of all the twisty turns and the feeling like the whole cause was hopeless, but... fuck... it really turned out magnificent. Pew Pew magnificent.

I only have one complaint. The very end shouldn't have been the happy reunion of Kanna and Kenji. It should have ended with Kanna kicking him in the balls and telling him that he was a goddamned moron and a fool and an asshole for staying away for so long. And then Kenji's lost love would have really killed him at the very end.

Now, that would be ENTERTAINMENT.

Good god this was good. ( )

Nice almost end, more of a climax as it actually continues in 21st Century boys. ( )
