There is a lot of information in this book. It is packed full with pictures and information on the Arctic and Antarctic. I learned many things about the landscape and animals that survive there which was nice. That being said, I can see where a child might become overwhelmed by the over load of facts crammed in this book. It is undoubtably a useful took in teaching science but I would suggest taking this book slowly page by page so that one doesn't get lost. ( )

This book is an encyclopedia style book about the Arctic and Antarctic. This would make an good resource for a student first research type project. This company has more than fifty other books in different topics which each student could pick a topic from. This book covers the habitat of the polar regions, wildlife, survival of the inhabitants, discovery of the polar regions, and the tools that were used. There are plenty pictures and information. Like most reference books, there is an index at the rear of the book. ( )

This book gives people information about life in the Arctic and the Antarctic. It fills you in on things from the animals in the water of the Arctic to animals that roam around freely. The book even revisits how hunters were able to survive life in this tundra. The illustrations are a great help for learning more about the history.

During a geography lesson I could see sharing this book with students. The pictures are so vivid and they would give such a clearer understanding of the life there. Also, I would have my students make sure they understand what it is they are reading by probably quizzing them on each chapter. The way I initially went through the book was just looking at the pictures and stopping at what interested me; then I went back and read the facts. This would be important for students to do.

Honestly, I did not like this book at all. I am not a big fan of animals, but I cannot stress enough how helpful the illustrations and pictures were. The captions were also helpful. I noticed the book had italicized print that was connected to the photos to point out important characteristics of whatever they were showcasing. The part that I found most intersting was the section about keeping warm and safe while in the harsh conditions of the Arctic. I had always wondered how anyone could visit there and not freeze to death, but the pictures and explanations showed how people can be okay. ( )
