The poems are simple, easy to read, but don't really distinguish themselves from one another, and while some of the pictures are truly beautiful, others are rather lackluster. I'd also hoped the book would use the poems as a starting point and then elaborate more fully on the nature of the creatures, but the notes on each were limited to a brief sentence or two and, in several instances, didn't explain anything more than the creature's location of origin. ( ) Mythological and magical creatures familiar amongst different cultures all come together in the pages of this book. Each page contains a poem and vibrant illustrations to tell a small story of an individual creature. The creatures include a dragon, a mermaid, a firebird, a centaur, trolls, a cockatrice, hobgoblins, a sea serpent, a thunderbird, a sphinx, a will o' the wisp, a gargoyle, a naga, and a phoenix. This is a book of poems about different mythological creatures. Things like mermaids, a thunderbird and trolls. The next page has a painting of what the creature looks like. Each poem flowed very well and had a good bit of rhyming in them. This book is awesome for kids to use their imagination and it makes reading poetry fun
