I labeled this book realistic fiction because the story could have happened. There are children who ask their grandparents to tell them stories of their childhood and most grandparents are more than happy to share. The illustrations in this book add to the story and move it along. The reader can see how the forest looked when Grandpa was young and in present day. The reader is able to see the destruction caused by the fire and the new life that came after the fire. Media: Mixed- Pen and ink and watercolor aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Characterization: Grandfather is a round and static character. You know about his lively hood, how he grew up, and his family. You also realize throughout the book that he is the same as he always will be. He has his values and his way of life and because of his age nothing is going to change about it.
Review: This book is a good example of realistic fiction. It is realistic because forest fires do happen and people do lose property in them. Also, the maple syrup gathering is a common trade in Canada. This book is very believable and is very likely to have happened at some point. However, there is no proof that this story actually took place, but it is such a strong possibility that there is no room for not believing it.
