Juliana is sick and finds out that her tonsils have to be taken out! The idea of having an operation is scary, and her fear only gets worse as the operation date gets closer. She gains advice from her friend Storey and her parents throw her a party to celebrate her getting her tonsils out. The day of the operation, the doctors walk Juliana through the operation and, before she knows it, her tonsils are gone and she can eat all the ice cream she wants. She has pain for a few days, but when she goes back to school she wishes she could have done it again! Juliana has a very scary situation. Operations are intimidating for a child, so being able to bravely go through with it is commendable. She feels comforted by Storey's advice, since she's had three operations before. Juliana cries, but she does what the doctors say. Who doesn't love being able to eat so much ice cream? She does have trouble with pain and swallowing, but that quickly goes away. The book is written like a journal, so Juliana is free to write all her thoughts and feelings into the story. Surgery can be scary, especially for children. Juliana has a problem with sore throats, and she finds out she has to have her tonsils removed. She is fearful because she doesn't know what to expect. After speaking with her dotor and talking to one of her friends who has had multiple surgeries, she feels a litttle better about the procedure. She hardly remembers anything about the operation, but recalls her down-time afterwards. Promises of ice cream, chewing gum and presents puts Julianna's mind at ease. She makes it through this uncomfortable situation unscathed, and looks forward to sharing her experience with her friends. Good-Bye Tonsils! By Craig Hatkoff ★★★★★ By far one of my favorite tonsillectomy books for children. This book explains the step-by-step process children will endure when in the hospital for a tonsillectomy. It also explains why Juliana is having her tonsils out and will have a beneficial outcome. She realizes that having your tonsils out is not so bad after all! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
