My daughter chose this board book as her Halloween book of choice, despite mommy's attempts to dissuade her (the girls are getting a bit old for board books). It is a touch-and-feel book featuring the adorable Biscuit, and relies heavily on the popularity of this popular children's character to carry the story. The narrative is minimal, as it follows Biscuit and his owner trick-or-treating on Halloween night. They encounter other friends and costumes, and Biscuit finds different textures that the reader can feel. Scratchy scarecrow legs, a furry cat's back, and other materials that are done over and over in the touch-and-feel world. There is not much to this book, the story is rather uninteresting, and the textures uninspired. I much prefer the larger Biscuit picture books, which have some depth to their stories. This is not the only book in the Biscuit touch-and-feel series, but as I wrote earlier, I feel that they rely on Biscuit's popularity to support mediocre stories and textures. The illustrations are admittedly adorable. I would choose other books in the touch-and-feel world, but Biscuit fans will probably like this one. Young Reader Reaction: Depicting Halloween from a dog's perspective can aid children in understanding this holiday. Since Biscuit sees all the possibly startling things and has fun, it can influence young listeners to do that too. In this book, the woof, woof is written with a different color, which makes it easier for the reader to identify Biscuit's speech. The textured zones are useful and interesting for the kids who like/need sensory input. Adult Reader Reaction: We have always enjoyed Biscuit. One of the things that we love is how easily they transition from picture book to early reader. Halloween is no exception. As Biscuit the puppy celebrates Halloween by going trick-or-treating, young readers can feel the textures of such objects as a furry costume, a silky ghost robe, and a scarecrow's straw feet. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
