SHE VOWED TO MARRY FOR LOVE, BUT A DASHING LORD HAS OTHER PLANS IN MIND. . . . It was a scandal, indeed! Lucian Carisbrooke, the nonpareil of every woman's dreams, is involved with Miss Arabella Trentham's own relation. But when Kitty Polstead, Society's most incomparable hostess, decides she is tired of Lucian's attentions, Arabella is dispatched to break the bad news. Yet Lucian desires revenge--and his retaliation involves a marriage to Arabella! As his bride, she will have his name and his fortune and become the darling of the ton, thereby knocking Kitty off her social register. What more could a woman want? Was love too much to ask? I could never really warm up to the hero. I mean he has a sort-of affair with a horrible woman then wants to marry her cousin(the heroine)and transform her into the new belle of society.
I couldnt really believe he got over his feelings for the heroines cousin that fast when only a day earlier wanted to elope with said cousin.
And then wanting to get revenge. That implies he did have some feelings left for her.
The cousin was quite awful in fact.In a"Oh fiddlesticks! My cousin vanished while doing an errand for me.She was probably murdered and thrown in the river...Ooh look a new bonnet"-way
I think the heroine should have given her more grief about her behavior towards her and also the fact that she treated her daughter and husband so badly.
Maybe its more realistic but I want to see the villains/bad persons get whats coming to them in historical romances.
An ok read but I am afraid I cant recommend it. ( )
