This guidebook comes from the folks at TimeOut magazine, and its magazine roots are sometimes obvious. It's a bit larger than the usual guide book and contains significantly fewer maps. On the flip side, however, it has a lot more background information on the DC area in general (by way of various introductory essays) and on specific sights. Due to this, I would recommend this book as one to read for some preliminary research before visiting DC but not necessarily as the book you want to have on hand when traveling about the city. (I'd recommend this one for an easy pocket/purse reference.) This guidebook seems to be designed more particularly with a British audience in mind, but that is not necessarily a bad thing - just be aware that sometimes you might read some British-isms or some references to converting money, etc. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Time Out experts take the DC pulse-from the political powerhouse of the monumental core to the living metropolis beyond-and offer incisive critiques of the local culture, whether it's world-class museums, bars and restaurants or the distinctive home-grown music scene. Day trip itineraries to Baltimore and Annapolis are also included. With the heart of US government inhabiting its monumental core, Washington DC is one of the world's most instantly recognizable cities. Time Out 's local experts give the low-down on this famous patch of land, its buildings and their meaning. They also look beyond the institutional icons - the White House, Capitol and more - to take the pulse of the wider Washington. The city's museums are world-class and definitive. Whether it's the 15 sites of the venerable Smithsonian Institution, the Museum of the American Indian or the National Air & Space Museum, these collections reflect America's perception of itself. But beyond both the buttoned-down corridors of power and the national collections lies yet another Washington-a diverse cityscape that is home to a vibrant cultural life, with award-winning restaurants, innovative art and a unique home-grown music scene.
