A special book from my childhood, loved it. Grandma brought it back from her trip to Japan. The stories were delightful, and the artwork astonishingly beautiful. I've read it time and time again, and recommend it wholeheartedly, it's lovely.

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s). I feel a lot of readers automatically render any book they enjoy 5, but I grade on a curve! ( )

Originally published in 1953 and had it's 38th printing in 1990. There are twenty stories in this collection with simple plot lines, one-dimensional characters, good versus evil and a moral lesson. Timeless childhood favorite. ( )

These folk tales are very familier ones to every Japanese young and old. Nicely illustrated.
