"I will tell you how I grew up and how I was trained, about the great sages with whom I lived and what they taught me, not through lectures and books but through experiences."- Swami Rama Reading it, you will discover the human side to this yogic master. He is a young boy, full of mischief. He is a teenager, full of curiosity and adventurous zeal. He is a seeker, with certain strengths and weaknesses. Just like us, he sometimes fails to distinguish the fake gurus from genuine masters, mistaking magic for spiritual achievement.Living with the Himalayan Masters is one of those rare books that contains the seeds of transformation within its pages--sowing those seeds in the heart of the reader, and creating the potential for true spiritual upliftment. These stories record Swami Rama's personal quest for truth and enlightenment--inspiring, illuminating, entertaining, mystifying, and often droll and humorous. This life-changing book will bring you face-to-face with some great twentieth-century masters, including Mataji of Assam, a ninety-six-year-old sage who never slept; Gudari Baba, who taught Swami Rama the value of direct experience; Yogi Sri Aurobindo, who integrated meditation with action; Uria Baba, who demonstrated that every human being has the potential for healing; and Mahatma Gandhi.Read the humbling story of the man who founded the Himalayan Institute, and the great teachers who molded him into a Himalayan Master.… (plus d'informations)

I'm glad to read some background that I didn't know about Swami Rama. He was my first Guru. The day before Halloween 1972 I'd hitchhiked across Illinois to find him, based on a friend's advice. He fed me chapatis he cooked himself, took me aside to a quiet room, and gave me a mantra, initiating me into his following, then put me up for the night. Charming fellow, but as a penniless hippie living on a rural commune at the time, affording his lectures wasn't easy. I made friends, worked gratis in Shakti Bookstore in Madison, WI for a time, but ultimately moved deeper into the Tibetan Buddhist orbit. ( )

If you need something to cheer you up then pick this up or even otherwise should be in your collection of life's how to manuals.

Brilliant. The serenity and the power of the Himalayas opens up right in front of the reader. When it comes to spiritual wisdom and energy, there is no place on the planet earth like the Himalayas. For long we have heard the mystical life and mysteries of Himalyan yogis. Here is book that takes us to the nuances of life of a Himalayan yogi. The entire time I read this book I was living in a world of spiritual joy. Seek the truth? Read this book. Brilliant. ( )

This is an inspiring book I enjoyed reading. It is written in a down to earth and humble way, in short chapters. Some experiences the author had are hard to grasp, and will possibly seem incredible for our Western, scientific minds. However, it is an inspiration for the power of persistence and patience, which seem to be our nemesis in today's world. ( )
