I think this book does a really good job of explaining the water cycle. It tells the story of a snowflake that melts travels down a stream, gets filtered, goes through pipes and out the sink, evaporates, and freezes again. Personally I think students would be able to make connections to what they are already used to seeing (the sink, rain, or fog). But this book helps tie it all together for them. ( )

Month by month, this book shows the journey of a single drop of water and effectively teaches a lesson about the water cycle on, above and below Earth. The illustrations are very pretty and the colors are wintery and appropriate. Read this in class and the students loved it! Great story for an ELA read aloud or science lesson. ( )

Unlike many Water Cycle explanations, The Snowflake tells a unique story of how water goes from earth, to a cloud and back again through following a single snowflake through the 12 months of the year. The book explains how water freezes, melts, evaporates, condenses and then freezes again. I really enjoy the way this story explains the water cycle because it is different and unexpected. This would be a great piece of literature to add into a science lesson about the water cycle. ( )

This book does an excellent job explaining the water cycle steps. The book has beautiful pictures that show the steps in real sceneries around the world. I really like how each page is a different month out of the year. The weather patterns are ones that we typically see in those months. The book is well written, but some of the words may be harder for younger children to understand. The book overall was a great book and really is straight to the point and explains everything well. Waldman traces the journey of a single drop of water throughout the year, with each month receiving its own spread. The water begins as a snowflake that melts into a droplet, flows into the ground, bubbles up in a spring, flows into a farm's irrigation system, evaporates into the morning fog, becomes part of a cloud, rains down, enters a plumbing system, washes a little girl's face, flows out to the ocean, gets swept onto the shore and evaporates into the sky to become a snowflake once more.
