Sam is on a class trip with his class. Sam and his classmates go to the zoo. While Sam is at the zoo he stops to look at several things only to find that he is struggling to keep up with the rest of the class. His teacher keeps instructing him to keep up with the class. Each time he stops to look at a different animal the teacher has to caution him to pay attention to what the group is doing. Then all of a sudden, while looking at the turtles and frogs, Sam realizes that he is all alone. Where did the rest of the group go? When he finds his teacher, he realizes just how important it is to stay with his group.

Each of the different animals mentioned in the book are illustrated wonderfully and gives younger readers great references to help them understand the story. The colorful images are well depicted.

This is another book that would prove helpful the first time a group of students are getting ready to go on a trip together. The teacher could read the book to students and use it as an opening to a conversation about field trip behavior and rules. ( )
