Critique: I personally love The Cat and the Hat books. I grew up listening and reading them. It is a funny book that will have children laughing as it is read to them because of the words and the pictures. I mean I laugh because the cat is trying to juggle a lot of things and it just looks funny. It is an easy book to follow along with. A lot of the words found in the book are repeated throughout the book.
Prompt: Create a list of questions to ask the students as you read the book. Some questions could be: Would you have trusted the cat? Is it ok that the cat made a mess? Was what the cat did an okay way to act? What would you have done if you were Sally or her brother?
Craft Element:
Reading- Character traits- talk with your class about what character traits are before reading the book. Then read the book and have the students focus on the different character traits the cat and hat displays in the book. Write your students responses down on chart paper.
Reading- Teachers can use this book to teach their students rhyming words. This book has tons of them.
