Cats have a lot to say! Just like people, cats share their feelings in all sorts of ways. It's up to us to uncover what our furry friends are trying to tell us. Are they gently purring or curiously crouching? Is their tail straight or swishing? Featuring a diverse cast of kids and cats from all over the world, this social-emotional learning book models empathy and compassion. Young readers will learn to look for the different ways their friends--human and feline alike--share their feelings. Each silly, sassy cat expresses a different emotion to their human pal, who responds to the cat's needs by handing them a treat to soothe their nerves, giving them space to calm down, or offering lots of cuddles. The kids also describe how they communicate those same feelings. Sometimes they hold hands with their best friends, ask their parents for a hug, or say they need to take a break. Written by award-winning author (and cat owner) Guy Brown, with colorful and lively illustrations from Davide Ortu, How Cats Say I Love You teaches young kids how to care for others' feelings as well as their own, while showing that healthy relationships are rooted in communication.… (plus d'informations)

This book is totally adorable! The illustrations are charming, and the story is sure to bring smiles to children, especially if they have cats at home. While the book talks about how cats show emotions, it naturally leads to a discussion about how that compares to how humans show emotion. Recommend.

I am a huge cat fan and I love this book! What a great way to teach young children how to interpret sounds and body language of cats. I also love how the author chose to incorporate children from different continents. The illustrator did a great job putting famous landmarks in the pictures. At the end of the book, the author explains the name he chose for the cat from each country... even more learning for kids!
Each spread not only tells what the cat is feeling but also tells how the associated human deals with that feeling. The only improvement I would have for the book is to put a pause in between the cat's feeling and the child's. Maybe with the question "What do I do when I feel ____________?" That way a young child who cannot yet read would have time to think about how they deal with that feeling. Excellent book!!! ( )

"How Cats Say I Love You," written by Guy Brown and illustrated by Davide Ortu, shows how humans show emotions and compares that to how cats use their body language and voice to share those same emotions. The book purposely uses humans and cats from around the world. Each page features a window showing iconic landmark features from each country. My favorite part was trying to identify the country before looking at the cat's tag which featured the country's flag. There are also a variety of breeds of cats. Back material confirms each country and the name and breed of each cat. The text is concise on each page making it appealing to young readers. The artwork is two-dimensional but detailed enough to show distinct features of each cat breed. The cat lovers in my library will love this book!

I received a free advanced copy of this book from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers giveaway in exchange for an honest review. I have a beloved tuxedo cat right now and have had cats for years so I might be biased, but I loved this book. The author tells a sweet story of how cats show their love, but then ties it into how kids can share their feelings in healthy ways. For example cats put their tails down when they don’t want to play and kids can tell their friends they need a break when they want some alone time. What I also loved about this book is that each cat and kid are from a different country and you can tell because the flag of the country is on the cat’s collar. This is a great book for kids that have a cat as a pet and for introducing feelings. Would be great for a social-emotional lesson in elementary school. ( )

The illustrations and the global element are the best things about this book. The end matter where every cat breed is identified is an unexpected added bonus. The title seems to be a bit off. To understand a cat by observing tail behavior seems to be a stretch. This book can, however, be a good spark for discussion about a child's own cat. ( )
