"Above the Fold" is an exhilarating journey back to 1980s New York City, where crime reporter Trisha Connell takes center stage in a gripping tale of mystery, danger, and gritty determination. Lawson seamlessly weaves a narrative that mirrors the pulse of the punk rock era, infusing Trisha's journalism with a relentless, aggressive, and bitingly honest style that sets her apart in the bustling world of news.

Trisha's character is a force to be reckoned with, and her fearless pursuit of the truth propels readers into a story that transcends the boundaries of a conventional crime thriller. The stakes are high for Trisha as she delves into the sensational theft at an art museum, only to uncover a personal connection to the victim—a former foster kid who was supposed to be living a good life. The discovery adds layers of complexity to the narrative, elevating the emotional resonance of the plot.

The dynamic partnership between Trisha Connell and Edmund Grayson, the security expert assigned to the museum, adds depth to the story. Their alliance, driven by shared guilt and a common quest for justice, unfolds against a city rife with danger and intrigue. As Trisha charges into the story's heart, risking life and career, readers are taken on a rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Edmund's character balances Trisha's relentless pursuit of the truth. His security expertise provides a grounded and rational counterpoint to Trisha's bold and impulsive nature, creating a dynamic partnership that enhances the overall narrative tension.

"Above the Fold" is not merely a crime thriller; it's a masterfully crafted exploration of a bygone era, a celebration of tenacity in the face of adversity, and a testament to the power of journalism. Corrina Lawson has delivered a gripping narrative that seamlessly blends elements of mystery, suspense, and personal drama. For anyone seeking a captivating read with a strong, compelling protagonist, "Above the Fold" is a must-read that will leave you eagerly anticipating Corrina Lawson's next literary endeavor.

This book had me hooked from the start. I found it difficult to put down. The characters are likeable, and I would love to learn more about them. The romance was a big part of the book, but it was not the sole focus of the book. I enjoyed the mystery, and the book was action-packed. This is supposed to be the first book in the Trisha and Grayson mystery series, and I can't wait for the next mystery,
Thanks to LibraryThing, Corrina Lawsen, and City Owl Press for providing a complimentary copy of this book in hopes that I will leave my unbiased review. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and the above review is simply my opinion of the book.

Corrina Lawson brought me back to the 80s, in a spectacular way, I fell in love with the kick-ass punk Trisha, and the relationship that develops between Trisha and Grayson. 1980s NYC is vivid and alive. Highly recommend. ( )

I loved how fast paced and immersive this was. Very easy to get lost in, and it sucks you in from the beginning. Very well written and the characters and scenes are so fleshed out. Fantastic read I recommend to any who will listen.

Above the Fold is a fun read, featuring very likeable main characters. Trisha (Patricia) Conner is a crime reporter for the New York Herald; she's a 30 year-old woman who went through foster care, experienced abuse and homelessness, and is now active in the New York punk scene. Edmund Grayson is co-owner of a small security firm; he's a little over 40 with an ex-wife and a 15-year old daughter and a long history of high-level security work. Both have major trust issues although this volume focuses more on Trisha's history. The book is presented as the first of a series.

The story involves a break-in at a small museum that is getting ready to open a show of art that was seized by Nazis and has not been returned to the original owners. Trisha finds out about the crime and disobeys a direct order from her publisher to cover a political story so that she can go to investigate what happened at the museum. She's right but that doesn't help her with the publisher & her job situation. Grayson's firm provided the security for the museum so he feels responsible for the break-in and for the tragic murder of a young woman Trisha knows that accompanied it. Trisha wants the story. The two of them work together and quickly build trust and shared knowledge.

Above the Fold takes place sometime in the 1980's, in Manhattan. It has some of the feel of the period, although I think it also leaves out some important parts of the scene. I'm not sure if it is clear what year the book takes place in & that, of course, makes a difference. This book is well-written, although there are some typos in the e-book. I'm giving it a rating of 4 because I think it is a good book and I hope people will consider reading it.

I did find that Trisha and Grayson experienced the same interpersonal conflict several times & it got somewhat repetitive; this is realistic but can be harder to read. As mentioned above, I expect Grayson's history will be developed more in future books since I felt his character needed (and deserved) more explanation.

Also -- and this might be somewhat of a spoiler -- I did wonder about some ways the New York scene, and the life of a 30 year old woman, were presented. I don't remember much involving gay people, African-American people, or people from Latin America & the Caribbean. ( )
