Like most anthologies, this one had some stories I really liked and some I was less enthusiastic about. "Dieselpunk" is less tied to a time period or aesthetic than steampunk usually is, which made the anthology an interesting mix of settings. I particularly enjoyed "Under Amber Skies", by Maria V. Snyder, and "Hyena Brings Death", by Bernie Mojzes. "Return of the Diesel Kid", by John L. French, had a fun setting that was outside of the WWI-WWII era that many of the stories favored. Overall, I liked this book very much and look forward to reading more by these authors and in the dieselpunk genre in the future. ( )

This was an interesting collection of short stories. Most of these were OK and I was only OK with them (rather than happy) was that I thought I was getting a novel instead of a collection of shorts... Each story was good and could have been significantly expanded into a longer tale that I would have happily read. ( )

A collection of diesel-punk stories. I thought most of the earlier stories were fairly weak, being more concerned with the diesel-punk style rather than any actual substance. The later stories were far better. I particularly enjoyed Maria V Snyder's WWII story, and Bernie Mojzes' African-inspired story. Unfortunately, most of the other stories were far less memorable. As an anthology this worked, but I feel that it was fairly weak; it was probably better dipping into the stories every so often rather than trying to read in longer sessions. An OK read.
