This volume of NT is printed by ABS with Book of the Psalms.
The combined books are presented without Introduction, or cross-References. Yet they are happily accompanied by Chapter subheadings which are very descriptive, purporting to summarize the text. For example, the subheading of the very busy 26th Chapter of Matthew: "The rulers conspire against Christ. 6 The woman anointeth his head. 14 Judas selleth him. 17 Christ eateth the passover: 26 instituteth his holy supper: 36 prayeth in the garden: 47 and being betrayed with a kiss, 57 is carried to Caiaphas, 69 and denied of Peter." Not a bad outline of the Chapter!
The Psaltery provides similar summaries. For example, a Psalm of theodicy is described: "David complaineth to God of the outrage of the wicked. 12 He prayeth for remedy. 16 He professeth his confidence." This is one of the many chapters which Question God, and condemn the proud, boastful and materialist oppressors.
In fact the Psalm begins as a challenge to God: "Why standest thou afar off, O Lord? why hidest thyself in times of trouble?" Pure theodicy, mirroring the Jobean theme, and the cry of abandonment. Of course it is also true that it condemns the proud, boastful oppressors. It almost names them, with names we should recognize today.
