( )Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This is a really useful and worthwhile book, though I would say that the title is misleading: it's not just for "seniors over 60." I requested it from early reviewers because I have experience with yoga, but I also have experience with injuries and other limiting factors. It can be difficult to find an instructor who is able to provide extensive assistance with modified poses, so a do-it-yourself guide was really appealing. It didn't disappoint. The book is grouped into exercises for specific concerns, which could make it very helpful for someone who is seeking poses for only a very narrow issue. I would personally suggest not limiting yourself in such a way and taking advantage of more poses. This method of organization does make it easy to quickly flip through to find exactly what you're looking for, though. Readers will be pleased to find you can do all the exercises in your own home, and you don't need special outfits or equipment. Feeling like you need to do a lot of prep work before starting a new exercise or fitness program can be a real barrier to getting started, and this book just sidesteps that barrier altogether. I was literally able to download the ebook and get started, so that's perfect. There's solid advice about what poses to avoid if you have X issue (eg, high blood pressure). The guidance about meditation may be helpful for those who experience pain and health conditions; even if you're thinking only of the physical fitness aspect, it won't hurt to embrace all aspects of yoga. I feel like this book does a good job of encouraging this holistic view of health. The book does a good job of not giving you too much information, which can be overwhelming when you're taking on a new practice. The illustrations and instructions, though, are extremely clear, and it's all easy to follow. I'm very pleased that I won this book in the ER giveaway, because the things it contains have truly become a part of my daily routine. You really can't say that about every book, but it's been true of this one (for me). Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Easy yoga moves to help seniors maintain flexibility and strength. I like this book because I'm in that age group and it is explained well. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. First, I received this ebook as part of the Library Thing Early Reviewers program. Secondly, I am a certified Chair Yoga instructor so I was very interested to see what the book had to offer. The book has a really nice introduction to yoga which new practitioners of yoga will find helpful and interesting. The illustrations in the book are of excellent quality and nicely demonstrate how the poses should look. There is a plan for a full practice at the end of the book. The ebook also offers a link to an online meditation although I have not listened to it. Perhaps my favorite chapter was the one on mudras. I thought that chapter was very well-done, and I will definitely use parts of it in classes that I teach. The author makes mudras easy and accessible. Many new users will like the way that the book is organized in poses for specific parts of the body as well as problems the body experiences, such as knee pain. However, that organization may prove self-limiting as many of the poses are good useful for a variety of reasons. The thing I found most odd, which was also mentioned by another reviewer, is the categorization of both Cat and Cow poses as "advanced poses". These are both basic poses that will be found in almost every class as a useful way to flex the spine. The title of the book is a bit misleading. Certainly the Chair Yoga poses are great for people over the age of 60, but they are equally valuable for people under age 60. I have had people all ages attend my Chair Yoga classes. Everyone finds them beneficial. I received the book via an email from the author, Jeanne Chapshaw. I have to wonder why her name is not listed anywhere in the publication. (That is the librarian in me coming through.) Overall, I think that many people will find this book useful. It is a solid entry in the growing body of literature devoted to Chair Yoga. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This is a delightful choice for anyone to get acquainted with the power and promise of yoga. The author does a complete and thorough guide through the many aspects of this practice than can truly make a difference in the quality of our lives. It is designed as the title indicates for seniors and centers on positioning mainly from a chair sitting position. It covers a wide range of positions and exercises that will be beneficial for everyone that takes the time to put them into practice. The descriptions are detailed and the illustrations very helpful in demonstrating the how to. Along with the many positions detailed in this book you will also get the origin and background of yoga and how it develops into not just a body conditioning but a true mindset for life. This also involves meditation and mindfulness, key pillars of the practice of yoga. A very useful and enriching journey is in store for you in taking up this unique volume and putting it into practice. You can structure your path however you see fit for your individual circumstances and the benefits will soon show you the path to a better and happier future. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
One big secret to growing older with confidence, dignity and style, is hidden in two words - Chair Yoga. More than 20% of all yoga enthusiasts are 60 or older, and that number is steadily growing. It's not surprising to see why. Yoga has a host of health benefits that improve the quality of life of older adults. It strengthens bones, improves balance and stability, enhances flexibility and joint health, and helps with mobility. As a result, you'll be able to keep moving, stay independent, and continue doing the things you love to do, such as taking a walk outdoors, playing with your grandkids, or traveling the world, throughout your golden years. An added benefit is the beautiful sense of tranquility that descends on you when doing yoga in any form. It can hone your mind into a level of focus, awareness, and calm, that has a positive knock-on effect on every part of your life. But if you have physical limitations, you may be wondering if it's possible for you to do yoga. Not to worry - you can still practice yoga and experience the numerous benefits it has to offer. And you don't need to do anything that's too active or physically challenging either. There are forms of yoga that are very gentle on your body and easy to do... and you only need a chair to do it.
