Wood You Be Mine is the fourth book in the ‘Omegas of Animals’ series. It stars Lasklas, a woodchuck shifter, and Shaw, a wolf shifter. This story is told in first person from both Lasklas and Shaw’s pov.



This book takes place in the same universe as the ‘Animals’ nightclub. I’ve read two of the previous stories in this series and this one continues along the same lines. Lasklas is employed at Animals as bartender, and Karma one of the owners of Animals, hints and directs Lasklas to stay in certain areas of the club. This is because she’s either match-making or knows that his mate will show up at the club that night. Usually, in a story the two MCs meet somewhere in the first chapter, this didn’t here. Lasklas and Shawn didn’t meet until almost half way through the book, which was rather annoying. The first half was them missing each other, and only catching faint hints of each other’s scents so that their shifter half was saying, ‘Mine’. Most of the tension in the story comes from the first half, because once the two meet they just have sex, set up house and have babies.

Lasklas was not one of the stronger omegas in this series. He was insecure and doubted he’d ever find a mate. It was mentioned in the story that he was BORN into a pack of wolves and the wolves looked down on him. Shawn left his old pack because he didn’t like how it was run and wasn’t expecting to find a mate, he was all about work at a job he hated. As usual, it was instant lust and love because these two are mates, but because there wasn’t much background about these two I couldn’t get into them as a couple. Also, because Lasklas wasn’t a strong personality, he wasn’t a strong enough character to be interesting.

I mentioned Lasklas said he was born into a pack of wolves. I’d like to know how that happened. The authors had a chance to explain and dig deeper into the mechanics of the world they created. Instead, they just toss out a random factoid about one of the characters without explaining any further. If a writer includes info about a character or event, they need to back up what they said, else it’s just weak or lazy writing because they couldn’t be bothered to think deeper about their character or world. In fact, this story would’ve worked a lot better if there was more background to both these characters.

Wood You Be Mine was an okay story. Not much happens. The two MCs meet and then get their HEA. I didn’t find the characters memorable, other than Karma and her husband. If you want a really low-key story after reading something stressful, this would work. It’s like eating cotton candy, sweet and fluffy without any substance. I give it 3 Stars.
