Surely a day out of the ordinary can’t do any harm. Venturing into the woods sets off a series of events sure to keep young readers engrossed. Liz Fe Lifestyle, publisher of the novella, ‘The Heart of a Wolf’, has produced an engaging story about a werewolf pack living in secret. While the werewolves await a long-held prediction to occur that will change the way they and other packs live, Jane is forced into accepting their help. Interspersed with simple, yet beautiful colour illustrations, the novella is an easy read for younger teens looking for excitement and romance. It follows the age-old trope of fairy tales, that have managed to captivate and enchant readers for years. Filled with plenty of dialogue between characters and the use of descriptive language throughout, ‘The Heart of the Wolf’ is a lovely, if not predictable read for younger book lovers. There were a few parts in the book that I thought dragged on BUT I am glad I kept reading till I finished the novel. I found this book very unique!!! The illustrations were a great added touch. I personal love a good shifter novel or story so this one kept my attention. You can tell that this book took a while to write building of this story is good but could be a little smoother in certain parts. My preteen son started to read my copy he is enjoying it! I feel like this is a good book and would reach a lot of teens and young adults. Overall I give this book a 9 out of 10. I do however recommend this book and I hope to buy a hard copy of this book my son seems to want a copy of it. They would suit a children’s picture book quite well but don't seem mature enough for this book. The wolves seem like cute little stuffies. The first time I saw the picture of the man-wolf was jarring . He seems to be about 80 years old and I was shocked to find out he was actually young. The writing is promising but needs editing. One major issues is that it would have more punch if the author avoided using the passive tense so much. “Her hand was covering her mouth, her palms sweating. Finally, after processing everything that happened, she took her uncles gun and began to run, not seeing where she was going, and made her way back to the cabin. Her uncle was waiting there, as if he’d been sitting there all day.” Scenes like this could be more engaging if the author used sensory details instead of telling us what happened. Let us experience that trip through the forest firsthand. The story jumps around and lacks consistency. I think the book needed more work to be ready for publication. If this book was written by a teenager, then I think it is a wonderful first attempt at trying to do longer form storytelling. However, it is in dire need of an editor. There are several inconsistencies (how old is our main character? Multiple ages are provided throughout the story) and the story moves way too quickly and without any real explanation or build between each plot point. Even after suspending belief and trying to immerse oneself into this fantasy, much of it is still unbelievable because there is no buildup (the immediate love connection is ridiculous).
Again, if this is a story from a teenager then I'm thrilled there is a young author out there trying to write. Everyone has to start somewhere. If it's not a young person then I hope this author takes the time to really work on their next book. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I received a copy of this book from the publisher through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.I was confused throughout since I couldn't decipher who the reader is supposed to be. The 20-something images included felt drawn by a very young person (I'm not saying they are horrible) I just feel like if the novel is meant for a teen audience, the images could be more professional. It's a cliche, not a bad book, just a very cliched novel with many holes and errors. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
