An excellent book on asexuality, Ace Voices goes beyond the basic "asexuality 101" topics (defining what asexuality is, proving that it really is a thing, etc.) that most of the other books on the subject (that I have read) have focused on. Non-binary author Eris Young uses detailed interviews with a diverse selection of asexual and ace-spectrum people to delve deeply into topics such as race, gender, love, sex, and relationships, and how these relate to being asexual or aromantic. I found this a deeply interesting and relatable book. I especially appreciated how Young emphasized the often ambiguous and variable nature of being ace, aro, or demi. A valuable and affirming book for anyone who is a-spec or who wants to learn more. (

This is a valuable addition to the growing canon of asexual literature. Young uses data from AVEN as well as 39 in-depth interviews to explore the diverse lived experiences of asexual people. It’s qualitative research results presented in a well organized, interesting way, with detailed citations and a great list of resources to boot. Well worth the read and earns a place as a future reference that I will revisit often. (
