The summary description of The Stolen Book of Evelyn Aubrey by Serena Burdick does a disservice to the book. The fact that the book description lays out the story and its eventual conclusion means that there is no surprise to the book. The description would be more effective if the book then introduces a surprise or a twist that stems from the descriptions but adds an unexpected element. This book does not. It proceeds exactly as you might surmise from the description, leaving me as a reader unsatisfied.

Told in the present and the past, the story revolves around a woman seeking her unknown father in the present and a married couple who are both writers in the past. I honestly got a bit sick of the way the woman in the past was restricted by cultural norms and her cruel husband. ( )

To steal other's descriptive words, I found this family saga lyrical, captivating and gripping, and the characters so rich with depth! A great way to escape on a wintry day. Burdick did a great job going between the two time periods, intertwining them so well. The twists were just complicated enough to make me think I'd caught her in a mistake, but no, it all worked so well. (edit) ( )

A time split read starting with Evelyn marring William, a life of happiness, well not quite. Then we meet Abby her Great Granddaughter, and her journey to find family!
We travel from California to England with Abby, but also we journey the life of Evelyn, and just when you think there are answers, well, no! Keep page turning and looking for answers and what happened to Evelyn and to the rest of the Aubrey family!
Are there answers, yes, but don't take the first one! There are surprises, and new members of the family, well, new to Abby, and then the family curse!
This did become a page turner for me, I wanted the real answers! There are so many twists and turns here!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )
