I think as much as i loved the plot and the characters the world did not feel as fleshed out as i normally love in historicals. I struggled a bit with the wider world of the book. I did ennoy the the element of mystery and supense tosed in a the end but the book is def not a new favorite!! I don't think I loved this book as much as everyone else did. I did ennoy the the element of mystery and supense tosed in a the end but the book is def not a new favorite!! Oh la la. A Matter of Temptation tells the story of Wilhelmina “Mina” Crawford and Simon the Earl of Creswick. They meet when Mina not only steals the place of her brother in a fencing duel with Simon, but actually wins! He saw through her ruse and was so impressed that he offered her employment, and the rest of the book is the story of their HEA. It’s been while since I enjoyed BOTH leads in a historical romance and I want to just gush about both of the leads. Mina is a breath of fresh air. I loved her banter, strength, and weaknesses. Her character is confident but still realistic and thus does not feel like a 20th century heroine living in 1891 or something. I enjoyed her so much. And Simon! Wow, he’s so amazing. Not only in his political beliefs, but just everything about him. He had so many moments that honestly made me swoon. The chemistry between the 2 was fire and I strongly rooted for them to have their perfect HEA. I felt some of the middle was a bit repetitive but honestly this was a very solid 4 stars from me. A huge thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. I mostly listen to audiobooks while I multitask, so just sitting to read something with my eyes sometimes feels a little tedious, and I end up setting it aside after a bit to do other things. But I had access to this as an ebook ARC, and I've really enjoyed other books by this author, so I couldn't pass it up. And I pretty much read the whole thing straight through. lol. It's an interesting premise, the characters and hurdle to their relationship are complex, they're well suited to each other, the emotions felt believable, and there's good steam. Pretty much winning all around. I've become quite tired of the main hurdle in romances just being the characters getting in their own way, and acting like children, or having lust and not much else, or denying that they actually hold any affection for the other long into the book and the like. This book was a tonic to all of that. I'm quite picky and don't throw around a lot of 5 star ratings, but I give this book one pretty easily. I received an advance copy for reviewing purposes, these are all my honest opinions. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Miss Wilhelmina "Mina" Crawford is desperate. Having been ruined in the eyes of society years ago for one foolish, starry-eyed mistake, she spends her days secreted away at her family's crumbling estate, helping her brother manage the land but not able to truly live life the way she's always dreamed. When her brother admits to just how dire their finances have gotten, she takes it upon herself to procure employment . . . but the only one who will even consider the scandalous idea of a female secretary is the brilliant, ruthless, and infuriating Earl of Creswick. Simon Loughton, the Earl of Creswick, needs help if he wants to finally pass the reform bill he's been championing for years and secure the vote for England's most vulnerable constituents. Too bad help comes in the form of a woman with breathtaking nerve, fiery red hair, and a sense of humor to match. Now temptation-disguised as a lovely, clever-mouthed devil-lives and works under Simon's very roof. And Mina finally feels as though she's truly living life to her wildest dreams. But even the most incendiary of kisses can't incinerate Mina's past . . . or the shocking secret that could ruin them both. Contains mature themes. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

When Simon meets with Mina he is so impressed with her that he offers her a job as his secretary (a job that women didn't typically hold at the time). Soon he is enthralled by Mina. He has always been very focused on business and politics, so his interest in her confounds him.
I really like the characters and the story, but I think that the relationship was slightly rushed at the beginning. Also, Mina was likeable, but kind of a Mary-Sue, which took away from the believability of the story.
I like how the politics of the time were included. The book is set in 1860s England when a lot of political changes were starting to happen (The Reform Act of 1867 and the Married Women's Property Act of 1870). ( )
