This book is really no more than a just plain “dirty book,” neither erotic nor interesting. Making the main character an 18-year-old does not work with the plot copied from Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, which was an excellent book. The original book’s excellence relied upon the innocence of its main character, naive both about sexuality in general and about his own orientation in particular. These elements were taken out of this copy-cat making it a clumsy and implausible string of non-erotic sexual episode with no particular point.
It’s standard in sex fantasy fiction writing to give male characters larger than normal endowments: after all, who wouldn't want one of those? However, this book has a lot of male characters whose endowments go far beyond simply being large or long. No porn star has as much as these guys are supposed to have, even though some claim to. In some cases, these characters do things with these fantastical tools that would not even be possible because of their size.
The worst part of the novel, however, is the reaction of the main character’s parents to his announcement that he is gay. After the tells them this horrible thing he has been willing to betray his closest friends over, they react as if he had just told them, “I had potato chips with lunch yesterday.” In fact, a normal parent would have actually interacted more with a son who had made the potato chip announcement. These parents are as unrealistically crafted as are the super-appendages of the men Simon finds.
This novel wasted too much of my time. Don’t let it waste any of yours. ( )
