This is part two of the Dark Heart Duet and picks up several years after the events of the first book. It is both an exciting mafia story and also a second chance at love. I liked that the heroine is a strong successful woman but also carries some insecurities just like a real woman. The hero is the Don of a crime family but is very different than how most Mafia stories portray the leader . It makes for a story that is less predictable than others in that category. I enjoyed this story and both laughed and cried. Jason Clarke and Carly Robins were a good choice for the audiobook version.
The only issue is that I was having trouble with confusing the characters names. Between the two books, there are a lot of side characters to keep track of. ( )

I am not sure why I didn't love this book as much as I loved the first part of this duet. I struggled getting into the story in the beginning with the time jumps. When I finally connected with the story, I found that I struggled with connecting with the characters. This saddened me because the premise of the story was really good and one that I had high hopes for.

However, this part felt disjointed for me at times and I never quite hit the groove with the story. I did keep reading because I needed answers and how this opposites-attract love story was going to end. I am glad that I stuck it out because the ending gave me the HEA that I was hoping for. Even though this was not my favorite from this author, I appreciate all her hard work in creating a memorable duet. I am rounding up from a 3.75 to a 4. ( )
