Secrets in the attic, not to be confused in Flowers in the attic is the first of a series focusing on two best friends, Karen and Zipporah, they confide in each other in an attic and of course, bigger secrets are spilt there. The book is told entirely in the first person, from Zipporah's POV.

Throughout the book, the author manages to create clear visual images through quotes, not just descriptive language. When Karen describes certain things, emotions were felt and I pictured what she was saying, the author is somehow showing us by telling. The descriptive language was done perfectly, sometimes overdone.

At times I was annoyed with the characters and struggled to cheer them on because how can I cheer Karen on when she wasn't going to tell anyone the truth and told Zipporah to keep it secret? Then she gets mad at Zipporah. At times, she was snarky and manipulative towards Zipporah and Zipporah was being so nice and supportive, never telling anyone about what Karen told her.
Karen was also quite bossy and forced Zipporah to go on a date.

Another issue I found was the rambling, descriptions were occasionally too overdone and events and conversations could have been reduced. However, I still found the book intriguing, especially as we are spoon fed snippets of information which was intriguing and annoying.

After finishing, I was shocked as I was so drawn in that 2 hours had passed faster then a wink.
When it's the epilogue, STILL, we get more information, I guess this is because there's a sequel.

A fast moving emotional rollercoaster, showing how tragically easy a pure hearted teen can be manipulated by someone she considered to be her one true friend. ( )

This has to be one of the absolute worst books I've ever read in my life. The ghost writer who produced this book is incredibly untalented. I only wish I could rate this book with negative stars. ( )

dissapointing. I know, I know. But I want to be entertained and this fell short. There were a couple good "Wow, where is THAT plot twist going to go?" and they just fell flat. And the clip from the next book - wtf? It's like all of the characters from the first book fell off the face of the earth! it just didn't seem to fit. are there multiple people writing under vc andrews now? If so - the 2nd author should have read the first book. ( )
