I cannot review this, as I was unable to get into it and did not read much.Riddles Island is an inventive subjective novel. It's a trip into the year 2111 how some people survive after the collapse of government, international business and other institutions. They forge a life on a rustic island with minimal technology. You can adapt to the language. This book makes you think about the future of the planet, as well as human sexuality and reproduction. Gender is fluid and not important when choosing friends and lovers. Energy use, economic inequality, genetic engineering, drug use, farming, food and transportation provide the tapestry on which the characters interact. Dylan and Rory -- who are non-binary like everyone else on Riddles Island -- face life-changing decisions and adventures. Be ready to adapt to Newspeak [borrowed from "1984"], especially some simple to learn non-binary pronouns used throughout the book. Most of the main characters are post-gender in the world where labels and binary sexual identities are things of the past in 2111. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"Rory and mer (him/her) partner Dylan face a life-changing predicament on Riddle Island in 2111 where they chose to live without children, gender identification, computers or cell phones. They venture across the bay where pirates lurk, to the lawless mainland, of what was once Maine and navigate a series of adventures and difficult choices. Voyage into year 2111, where seeds planted today shape the environment, pronouns, government, reproduction, sexual identity, energy, race and food production. Amid it all, human frailties persist in the struggle and joys of living in community. This cli-fi, post-gender tale belongs on the shelf beside 1984, Brave New World, Handmaid's Tale and Octavia Butler's cautionary tales"--Back cover. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
