I really liked the characters even though I really was not sure who was the bad guy for most of the book. This book had me wondering who was good and who was bad. This is the first book that I have read from this series and this is the fifth one but I did not have any problems figuring out each of the characters during the story. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will. Christy Barritt always delivers great mystery/suspense. In Legacy of Lies, book 5 in her Fog Lake Suspense series, the book begins with some serious creep factor and keeps up the action-packed pace throughout. I loved it! Set in a small touristy town in the Smoky Mountains, this novel has a great sense of place. It also has major and minor characters to love. Coming from opposite sides of the crime, Madison (the daughter of a convicted serial killer) and Shane (an FBI agent) join forces to find the truth no matter where it takes them. There’s a lot to overcome for these characters, but the chemistry between the two is definitely a strong factor in their relationship. The crime itself takes the characters and the reader on a twisting journey. It really kept me guessing. While the book comes in around 400 pages, it was a page-turner, making it a quick read for me. I was a bit wary of starting the series at book 5, but Legacy of Lies reads like a standalone. I just have lots more books to add to my TBR! This book captured me from the beginning, and I want to return to Fog Lake as soon as possible. Overall, this novel is a recommended read! Recommended. Audience: adults. (I purchased this book from Amazon. All opinions expressed are mine alone.) What I think you should know: Legacy of Lies by Christy Barritt is the fifth book in the Fog Lake Suspense series. Although this book is the fifth in a series you can start with it and completely understand and appreciate the story. I enjoyed this book so much that I am going to go back and read the previous books in the series. What you might need to know: This book involves a serial killer who has “returned” after a fifteen year absence. There are kidnappings and murders. While the main story has resolution there is an overarching story that does not resolve in this book. What I think about this book: Good Gracious what a crazy start, the first chapter is from the perspective of the Killer! If you are a fan of Barritt you know that you are in for a wild ride with this story, you are in for danger and mystery from the first page to the last! I couldn’t help but love Madison, who has dedicated her life to helping the forgotten victims of violent crimes. I felt so sorry for her and the guilt that she feels over her part in her father’s arrest. I completely understand why she has a mistrust of law enforcement. Shane was a very interesting character, it was fun to watch him go from someone completely confident that his father made the correct arrest to him admitting that there may be more to the story that first appears. I enjoyed the tension between Madison and Shane but the way that they were also able to work together! This might be my favorite of Barritt’s works that I have read so far. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and get to know more about Isaac and Bear. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. I like books that are suspenseful without being graphic. This author is one of my favorites when it comes to clean mystery stories. She has a knack for having her stories move at a good pace while keeping you on the edge of your seat. It is time to settle in for a night of suspense, secrets, list of suspects and an expertly written book that will send shivers down your spine. I can’t imagine being in a family where your father has been convicted of murder and labeled the Good Samaritan Killer. Madison has never believed that her father was guilty but the town does. Coming back to town to bury her aunt brings a host of emotions for her. I liked learning about her past and how awful her aunt was to her and her brothers. Wanting to do the right thing, she reaches out to her brothers to plan the funeral for her aunt. I think just being back in town gave Madison the creeps and she had good reason to feel that way. When unexplained videos start surfacing again that closely resemble the pattern of the Good Samaritan Killer, FBI Special Agent Shane steps in to investigate. Seeing Madison on the latest video brings chaos to the town. Why is someone after her and why are they copying another killer? Shane is not sure who to believe the more involved he gets into the case. The story is filled with twists that had me guessing till the end. I wasn’t quite sure if Madison’s dad is guilty but there are enough unexplained incidents that made me wonder. I liked how Madison was able to reconnect with her two brothers and try to mend their relationship. Doubt starts to shine a light on one of the brothers when unexplained items are found in his home. Can you imagine the terror Madison feels as she starts to think that her brother is guilty of murder? The ending is very good and leads to a very unexpected suspect. It’s a race to save Madison as a video shows up with her in dire need of help. Will she be rescued in time? The author leaves us with a cliffhanger and I am excited to continue this story in the next book. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Keeping Madison safe becomes Shane’s top priority. The twists and turns this book takes kept me interested. My one complaint would be the way the lack of a proper ending. I felt like there needed to be more resolution. The characters were well-developed and multi-faceted.
I have to say I want to read more about Melinda’s journey and the lives of her father and brothers. So if you enjoy Christian suspense novels, check out this book for yourself.
