Talk about the old rock and a hard place. That's where Alessa finds herself at the start of this story. She's tasked with pulling magical energies from the person selected as her partner, but all she's managed thus far is to kill three of them while attempting to harness her channeling abilities. This certainly doesn't bode well for the dwindling number of partners with the skills she needs who remain with ant sort of willingness. Enter Dante, marked as an outcast and cynical, but with a secret beyond what any involved might imagine. With his help and a new way of involving those with the magic she needs to direct in order to save her world, she perseveres. To say more about what happens would give too much away. Let it be said that for anyone who loves YA fiction with dystopian, magical, and dark themes, this will satisfy all three with a sequel set up nicely at the end of this one. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The Characters Alessa is a fantastic protagonist, especially for a YA book. She begins the book accepting the scorn of those around her as her due. She sees herself as a failure and is beginning to listen to those that wish her gone. (Spoiler level low, but marked for those that avoid them entirely.)
The Plot This is a largely character driven book, though the plot is also very engaging. We are along for the ride as the countdown to the end of the world ticks by.
The Writing I found the writing to be very good. The banter and dialog was all fantastic. The prose were well crafted and interesting. My only critique is that the supporting characters did not have particularly distinct voices. ( )
