This was a supremely sweet romance with probably the most cinnamon rolliest of all cinnamon roll heroes! Everything he did was out of love for Kenya. I loved reading about cosplay and all the work that goes into preparing a costume. If you love fake dating, forced proximity and super sweet love interest, you will enjoy this book! ( ) An elegant tea party is disrupted by a bogus beekeeper and ends in the death of a prominent politician and injuries to numerous other guests. The hostess who had hired Theo is distraught at the mayhem and the damaged artwork she was displaying. Pressed into service to find the killer, Theo again puts herself and Drayton in danger as she forges ahead. The mystery itself isn’t all that involved, but the path Theo takes to solve it is fraught with pitfalls. It’s an exciting story, and about as far from a neat and cozy tea shop as one can get, although there is plenty of tea talk in this tale as well. If you are a regular reader, then you what to expect from this talented author. If you are new to the series, then you are in for a treat. 3.5 (rounded down) This was really cute and I loved the vivid descriptions on how Cam and Kenya designed their projects. However, the romance aspect was not as strong as it should be and the sex scene was written poorly in my opinion. Despite this, the story was overall really heartwarming and a great example of a Black woman navigating and prevailing many different struggles in a predominantly white space, all with a great friend and lover by her side. This caught my eye as I scrolled through the library catalogue. When Kenya Davenport is a finalist in a televised cosplay competition she refers to her friend Cam as her boyfriend -- and hopes Cam will be willing to play along. Because Kenya and Cam are best friends, roommmates and business partners, and both secretly harbour feelings for the other, their relationship is less fake dating (one of my favourite tropes) and more backing up Kenya’s story by actually dating. I disliked the reality TV aspect -- the filming crew are invasive and manipulative, and that was just irritating to read about. But I liked the fandom references and the romance is sweet (if not wholly my cup of tea). aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"He's cosplaying as her boyfriend but their feelings for each other are real in this romantic comedy from Seressia Glass. Sometimes Kenya Davenport believes she was switched at the hospital-how else could a lover of anime, gaming, and cosplay come from STEM parents? Still, Kenya dreams of being able to turn her creative hobby into a career. She finally has a chance to make it big when she joins the reality show competition Cosplay or No Way. There's just one catch: the challenge for the final round is all about iconic pairs, and the judges want the contestants' significant others to participate. Unfortunately, Kenya is as single as can be at the moment. Luckily her best friend, Cameron Lassiter, agrees to be her fake boyfriend for the show. Role-playing a couple in love will force them to explore what they're hiding under the mask of friendship. Can Kenya and Cam fake it until she makes it, or will she be real about her feelings, knowing it could cost her the best friend she's ever had?"-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
